This
year the Fort Worth Bowl officially changes it's name to the Bell
Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl and will feature Tulsa and Utah. The
Utes have won five straight post-season appearances, including last
year's 38-10 stomping of Georgia Tech in the Emerald Bowl. The
team was playing extremely well and had won 3 straight games before the
loss to BYU in the finale. In that contest Utah gave up 19
fourth-quarter points. The defense still has allowed only 8.4 ppg
over their last 5, but should face a tougher task in Tulsa.
Tulsa had won
6 straight until running into 3 straight losses against Houston, Rice, and SMU.
The season ended well though for the Golden Hurricanes when they posted a 38-3
drubbing of Tulane. Last season Tulsa beat Fresno State in the Liberty
Bowl, 31-24. Tulsa is a team that can eat up clock and keep opposing
offense's off of the field, and they are completing 66% of their passes on the
year.
With the Utah
defense playing well lately and the Tulsa offense keeping great
control of the ball, I see this game going UNDER the total.
Utah is 10-1 UNDER on the road after 2 or more ATS wins in a row
since 1992 and 13-4 UNDER away from home in non-conference
games.
