Dirk Koetter
will be coaching his last game as a Sun Devil when Arizona State
takes on Hawaii in the 2006 Hawaii Bowl. He should
have his hands full as Hawaii needs one win to notch it's
winningest season in school history. Last year Arizona
State was an offensive powerhouse, but this season the team just
couldn't get it going on that side of the ball. Hawaii on the
other hand is having no problems whatsoever in that category as
they are the nation's leading offense at 47.3 ppg and 550 ypg.
Colt Brennan has become a stud at the quarterback position and
was voted the WAC Offensive Player of the Year.
All eyes will
be on Brennan in this one as he needs just 1 TD pass to match
the NCAA record of 54 set by David Klingler of Houston in 1990
and 198 passing yards to beat Ty Detmer's WAC single-season
record of 5,188. Hawaii is 3-2 in Aloha Stadium for Bowl
games and won in both 2003 and 2004 by putting up over 50
points, even though they allowed over 40 in both.
Arizona State
started out ranked 24th in the preseason AP poll, but faltered
against the best of the Pac 10. The Devils have played
twice in the Hawaii Bowl, but never against the Warriors.
They lost both appearances.
How can you
take the OVER when a team is as spotty offensively as Arizona
State, when they are playing Hawaii I guess. This number
is low for the nation's best passing offense, and they seem to
save their best for the bowl games. Arizona State can
score at times and against this Hawaii defense they shouldn't
have a lot of problems. I'm taking the OVER.
