The
2006 Outback Bowl odds show Tennessee as a favorite over the Penn
State Nittany Lions. Joe Paterno has won 21 bowl games during his
career, but he's a remarkable 15-6 when playing on New Year's day and
he's going to be able to add to that win mark if his defense continues
to play like it has been, giving up just two touchdowns in their last
five games. The offense though is going to have to do something as
they are averaging just 13.2 ppg this season away from home.
That Penn
State defense should have it's hands full with the SEC's second-best passing
attack. The Vols Erik Ainge completed nearly 67 percent of his passes for
19 touchdowns. Tennessee has averaged 35.2 ppg away from their home
stadium and they are 4-1 in those games. The Vols are not running the ball
as effectively as you expect from a Phil Fullmer team, but as long as Ainge has
a good game it should look good for Tennessee backers.
Penn State is
making back-to-back bowl appearances for the first time since 1999, and last
year the Lions won a thriller against Florida State in the Orange Bowl.
Tennessee is also pretty grateful to be here after going only 5-6 last season
and missing the postseason.
Penn State
