The Gators are the better all-around football team as they play the defensive side of the ball much better than OU and that gives them the edge here. I also question whether OU could have put up such great offensive numbers this season if it hadn’t been going up against such terrible Big 12 defenses. Here’s the comparison, Florida is allowing only 12.8 ppg this season and only 12.0 on the road while the Sooners are giving up 24.5 ppg and 28.7 ppg on the road. Texas scored 45 on the Sooners defense and Oklahoma State scored 41 and I don’t think I’ll have any argument that the Gators are a better offensive team than both of those. Besides the fact that this game is in Florida’s own backyard, Tim Tebow, Percy Harvin, and many other Florida players have already been there and done that two years ago. That gives them another edge over the Sooners. Florida is 7-0 ATS when playing against a team with a winning record this season, 7-0 ATS vs. very good offensive teams – scoring 34 or more points/game over the last 3 seasons, and 7-0 ATS vs. good teams – outscoring opponents by 10+ PPG on the season over the last 2 seasons. Florida is 8-0 ATS in its last 8 lined games. Pound the Gators!

The Utes have plenty on the line here as they look to end the season with a perfect record and prove once again that they belong in BCS discussions year after year. Utah is 22-9 ATS as an underdog of 3.5 to 10 points since 1992 and 23-9 ATS when playing with 2 weeks or more of rest since 1992. Bama doesn’t have much of a passing game but it may have to depend on its more because of the suspension of their best offensive lineman and that will keep the Tide from being at their best with their ground attack. He was confident that the Huskers would show up in a big way to finish off their season in a winning note over the Clemson Tigers and he was write on yet again. Let’s take a look at his analysis below to see if we can’t find out how to beat the bowl game odds on the few remaining contests in the season:

3* Gator Bowl BEST BET on Nebraska +3
In a game the odds makers originally gave the slight edge to Nebraska in, I will take the Huskers and the points now that action has made them a three-point dog. It was a very disappointing season for Clemson, a preseason top 10 expected to win the ACC. This team had its sights set on the Orange Bowl and nothing else. Football is very important to the state of Nebraska and the Huskers will want this game more. The key here is how badly Clemson’s offense struggled on the road, scoring only 16.8 ppg. Nebraska’s offense thrived on the road, scoring 37.5 ppg. Nebraska is 22-9 ATS vs. excellent passing teams with a completion pct. of 62% or better since 1992. We’ll take the points.

It was another easy winner over the bowl game odds for Michael Alexander and his clients yesterday. His bowl picks to start off 2009 are picking up right where he left off in 2008, with easy winners. Here are the details on why he liked the Bulldogs to not only win, but win big over the Spartans on New Year’s Day:

Georgia averaged 4.7 yards per carry and 9.1 yards per pass attempt (#7
nationally) while Michigan State gave up 4.3 yards per carry and allowed teams to convert 41% of third downs. This will create problems should the Spartans fall behind early as they only averaged just 5.1 yards per play.

In addition Michigan State is just 2-10 ATS (-9.0 Units) in road games after allowing 6.25 or more yards/play in their previous game since 1992, 7-18 ATS (-12.8 Units) after trailing in their previous game by 17 or more points at the half since 1992, and 5-19 ATS (-15.9 Units) after allowing 24 points or more in the first half last game since 1992.

It’s another Big-10 slow team going up against the SEC. A no brainer in this one.

Michael Alexander got the clients of his bowl picks off to a great start to the new year when he selected the Iowa Hawkeyes over the South Carolina Gamecocks in the 2009 Outback Bowl. Plays against neutral field favorites in a non-conference game between two teams from major division 1-A conferences, with an inexperienced QB as starter are 40-14 ATS the last 10 seasons. Plays against any team; good passing team (7.5-8.3 PYA) against a poor passing team (5.6-6.4 PYA) after 7+ games, in non-conference games are 27-6 ATS since 1992. Bet big on the Hokies!

I guess what else did we expect since he has proven to be one of the best at breaking down bowl game odds season after season. Let’s take a look at why he thought Notre Dame -2 was the play and how he thought the Irish would beat Hawaii in their bowl game:

Notre Dame has lost 9 straight bowl games and with all the heat that Weis has taken down the stretch when his team dropped 4 of 5, you can bet that he’ll have his boys ready to play in this game. Outside of a loss at home against Syracuse, the Irish played good football this season, losing by five and three points to good North Carolina and Pitt football teams, and they beat a good Navy team which appeared in the bowl season. Hawaii’s schedule was nearly as challenging. If it had been, the Warriors would not be bowling. The Warriors are only 1-5 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games. The Fighting Irish are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games as a favorite of 0-3 points. Notre Dame needs this game more and will rise to the occasion tonight.
