Lineback’s 2009 BCS National Championship Game Picks
[267-268] 4* Florida/Oklahoma UNDER 69.5 -110
Very high total, and for good reason, as both teams’ have put some serious points on the board this season. However, both teams’ have solid defensive units as well. Florida allowing 12.8 ppg vs. a more offensive challenged SEC. Oklahoma allowing 24.4 ppg vs. an offensive oriented (pass happy) Big 12. And it’s important to note, many of OU’s pts allowed in 2nd half this season, when game was often out of hand and reserves played major minutes. Hence, IMO Oklahoma’s defense is a little underrated by Vegas and will be highly motivated for this contest, as a result. That being said, I still think both teams’ will move the ball, in turn, eating up valuable minutes in the process. However, I also believe both teams’ have the speed and talent at the linebacker and secondary positions to break up plays and eventually stall out drives (hopefully more fg’s than td’s). Both teams’ especially excel at closing on the football (incredible d speed). In addition, strongly believe, Bradford is going to miss injured RB and playmaker DeMarco Murray. Plus, both coaches will game plan to control clock with long sustained drives to keep the others’ offensive off the field, in turn, giving their defenses a much needed break. And if you like Florida, Tebow will keep it on the ground if they build a lead. I like Florida in this game, mainly because of Murray injury, a special teams advantage (could decide game) and they’re playing in their own backyard. However not willing to lay the points because I wouldn’t be surprised if Oklahoma shocks the nation tonight. My play is on the UNDER.
