Boyd’s 2008 Texas Bowl Lines

Jimmy Boyd just keeps helping his clients cash in with his college bowl picks this season, and he’s not going to let up any time soon.  How about the big game he posted last night when he took the bowl game odds on Rice -2 as one of his biggest plays of the post-season.  If you missed out on this easy winner then don’t worry too much about it, because there will be plenty more where that came from.  Take a look at his writeup on why he liked the Owls so much in this one:

5* Non-BCS Bowl GOTY on Rice -2
Western Michigan’s offense is good, but it’s nothing like Rice’s.  The Owls are averaging 41.6 ppg while WMU is averaging just 29.8.  With this game being played Rice’s backyard, I expect the Owls to put on an offensive show in front of a basically home crowd.  Rice is 8-2 ATS when the total is greater than or equal to 63 this season, winning in these spots by an average score of 44.0 to 35.0.  This is significant because when the books have predicted a shootout, as they have here, Rice has come out on top.  Rice really proved what it could do in its last game of the season, putting up 56 points in a win over a good Houston team.  The Owls have covered in 5 of 6 coming in and we’ll ride them again here.  Lay the points.
