UC Santa Barbara currently holds a slim lead in the Big West Conference standings, sitting a game and a half ahead of Cal State Fullerton as the season progresses. The Gauchos have made their home court a fortress, coming away with wins in eight out of their first ten home games, which is a testament to just how tough they are to beat in their own arena. On the other side, Cal State Fullerton has found life on the road to be much more challenging. They've only managed to win three out of eleven away games so far this season. Even so, the Titans know how important it would be to notch a quality conference victory away from home, not just to close the gap in the standings, but also to build some momentum for the rest of their season. I’ll lean toward Western Kentucky, but this one’s a coin flip. The Hilltoppers need a good bounce-back following a loss to Kennesaw State this week too. WKU shot a miserable 29 percent from the field in that one with a 30-22 deficit on points in the paint. The free throw shooting (22-of-25 for 88 percent) was good though, and Western Kentucky had just six turnovers. that makes four straight losses for the Hilltoppers, who have failed to hit 70 points in any of those games. As for Middle Tennessee, they gave up a whopping 61.5 percent shooting from the field and 47.6 percent (10-of-21) from outside in their loss to Liberty, along with a 31-22 rebounding disadvantage. The Raiders have lost consecutive games now, scoring fewer than 66 points in both of those defeats.

Presbyterian is getting the benefit of the doubt because it’s at home, but this also isn’t a team that’s favored much, which tells us oddsmakers don’t think highly of this group. Furthermore, we just saw Redford dogwalk Presbyterian a few weeks ago by 19 points. A change of venue doesn’t close the gap that much, folks. Radford has 3 road wins already this season and nearly had another with a strong performance against Winthrop as a gigantic underdog. Radford is no pushover. I’ll grab the points with the Highlanders.

I’m on the Canucks here. I get the case to be made for Toronto in a must-win spot, but until I see the Leafs put it together, it’s hard for me to feel good about the direction this team is headed. The Leafs are arguably the most disappointing team in the league this year, and as bad as Vancouver has been, at least there’s no expectation for Vancouver and we’re getting the better price with the Canucks. Give me Vancouver.
