Oregon vs. Auburn 8:30 PM EST Play On: Over 72.0 (25*)
After watching how impressive Stanford was in their demolition of an excellent Virginia Tech team I came to the realization that this Oregon team has to be extraordinary. After falling behind 21-3 to the Cardinal the Ducks roared back to win 52-31 marking the only Stanford loss of the season. Other than a 15-13 win at California on a day the Ducks were completely flat but still found a way to win no other opponent has come within 11 points. Contrarily Auburn squeaked out wins versus Alabama, Mississippi St, Kentucky, and Clemson all by 3 points or less. They also only won by 7 at home versus LSU and trailed Arkansas at home heading into the 4th quarter.
In a game that both defenses have been labeled as being suspect it's the Ducks defense that has displayed the better numbers allowing 30 yards less per game than the Tigers. The Oregon defense has also forced an incredible 37 turnovers in just 12 games. Compare that to the Auburn stop unit who was only able to produce 20 takeaways in 13 games. Auburn was just a +5 in turnover differential for the season while Oregon was an outstanding +13 in that category. The reality is that both of these defenses will be severely challenged tonight. While both offenses are equally as explosive. At the end of the day the deciding factor will be that the Oregon defense will make at least two key plays in this game that will be the deciding factor.
Auburn opened here as a 3.0 point favorite. In spite of two-thirds of the wagering money on the pointspread going the way of Auburn that line has shrunk to 1.0. A true sign of sharp money including mine go the way of the Ducks. In addition well over 70% of the public has wagered on the under to drop the total from its opener of 74.0 down to 72.5. It's inevitable that this will be a high scoring game with the question just being how high. As far as the total goes the books don't give money away. This total was set this high knowing the general public who usually loves to wager on the over would be enticed enough to break that trend. I am siding with the books on this one. Play a 50* selection on Oregon, and a 25* selection on the over.
