NBA 75 DIME GAME PACERS -7.5 In their four meetings last season the Pacers led the Bulls 3-1 wins and were 1-1 in Chicago (Bulls won by 12 points and Pacers by 18). Bulls have a 1-3 home record this season, while the Pacers are 3-2 on the road. Bulls are better offensively, scoring 109.9 ppg to Pacers’ 108.8, while Pacers are better defensively, allowing 102.6 ppg to Bulls’ 118.4 ppg. Pacers have better percentages both in field goals (50.58% to 46.29%) and in 3-pointers (41.57% to 39.34%). Bulls are better both in dimes made (23.9 to 23.4) and in boards grabbed (41.4 to 40.4) and both teams commit almost the same number of turnovers (14 to 14.4). Pacers are superior to the Bulls and lay the chalk here.

Sacramento has been below average defensively, ranking 28th by allowing 120.3 points per game. De’Aaron Fox leads the Kings with 17.7 points plus seven assists per contest. Buddy Hield chips in 17.2 points per game, Willie Cauley-Stein adds 16.5 points plus eight rebounds a night, Marvin Bagley III is good for 13.7 points plus 7.2 boards a game and Nemanja Bjelica contributes 13.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per contest. Iman Shumpert, Justin Jackson, Frank Mason III, Yogi Ferrell, Harry Giles and Ben McLemore are all key players for coach Dave Joerger. The team hopes to get Bogdan Bogdanovic back in early November after knee surgery. Sacramento is 3rd in the league in field goal percentage as they shoot 50 percent from the floor. The Kings stand tied for 24th in the league with 10 three pointers per game and currently are 4th in three-point shooting at 39.5 percent from beyond the arc. The Magic on the other hand is not as good as the Kings. The Kings have the advantage outside the paint. I have Kings by 4 points. The under is good here too.

NBA 75 DIME GAME PELICANS -9.5 The Nets are off to a modest 2-2 start in the season, but they’ll be way in over their heads against the Pelicans. They don’t have nearly enough firepower to go shot-for-shot with the top-ranked scoring team in the NBA, much less the defense to slow them down. The Pelicans are averaging 132 points per game and beating opponents by an average of 15.3 points. Meanwhile, Brooklyn still ranks as one of the worst scoring teams in the league, despite all of their improvements, and opponents are averaging 106.5 points per game on them. That isn’t a good thing when going on the road to take on one of the top-three best players in the NBA. There might be no answer for Davis on any roster, and there certainly isn’t one on the Nets’. Obviously, the Nets could always get hot from the field, particularly from beyond the arc. They have been a middle-of-the-road three-point shooting team throughout the first four games of the season. Russell, Harris, Jared Dudley and Spencer Dinwiddie are all capable of knocking down the three-pointer. However, it still won’t be enough to pull off the upset against this surging Pelicans team.

We saw some good things from the Mavericks but blowing a 26 point lead against the Hawks to lose by seven dulls the shine of any positives they had. More importantly, however, they haven’t shot the ball well from beyond the arc, and there’s no secret that bad three-point shooting teams typically don’t do well in today’s NBA. It would be surprising to see Tatum and Brown have another night where both fail to score double-digits for the Celtics. This is the kind of bounce back opportunity they’ll sink their teeth into in hopes of sending a message that they are legitimate championship contenders. Westbrook and Paul George should have big games against the Celtics defense, but the two of them alone won’t be enough to stave off the Celtics’ ridiculous depth. They’ll get lit up again for a second consecutive game on their home floor and plummet to a shocking 0-4 start.

They are limiting opponents to 41% shooting in three games, and they rank third in the NBA with an average of 52 rebounds per game. The Raptors hit 14 of 33 threes against Cleveland, powered by Kyle Lowry hitting 5 of 6. The Raptors’ bench scored 35 points, picking up from last season when it was also one of the best supporting casts in the NBA. The Knicks were just 17th in that category a year ago and the new strategy might be effective given that they have to make up for Porzingis’s absence. The Nets hung tough despite their poor three point shooting but it’s tough to like a team that is overreliant on perimeter shooting despite a pronounced inability to have success. That’s Brooklyn in a nutshell. In one of the season’s early improbabilities, the Knicks take advantage of the Nets and start the year 2-0.

COLLEGE HOOPS 75 DIME GAME PURDUE -2 Texas Tech can make this game very interesting with its ability to lock down defensively and keep teams in check. The Red Raiders allowed the fewest points per game (64.6) in the Big 12 — which was 15th-best in the country — and are more than capable of bringing that defense to the regional semifinal. Though Haas missed the Butler game after fracturing his elbow late against Cal State Fullerton and his return timetable is still in question, Haarms is more than capable of manning the paint offensively and anchoring the defense. but against a very good Texas Tech team, both Carsen and Vincent Edwards (no relation) and Haarms will need to repeat their performance from Sunday to keep the Boilermakers dancing for another day. COLLEGE HOOPS 80 DIME GAME KANSAS -4.5 Clemson in the Sweet 16 for the first time since 1997 makes for an exciting story. But with all happy endings, they usually come to an end. Kansas will be by far the most talented team Clemson has played in the NCAA Tournament. Arguably, the Jayhawks might be the best team the Tigers have faced all season long. And don’t forget the ACC sent nine times to this year’s Big Dance The difference in this game will likely be Devonte’ Graham, Kansas’ star player. Graham is far from a one-man show, however, as the Jayhawks have four others averaging double figures in scoring. But expect Graham to be at the forefront of Kansas’ game plan, whether it’s scoring or getting his teammates involved. Although this year’s tournament has been crazy to predict, Kansas is the better team on paper and should get past Clemson and move on. Kansas by 8 points.

Washington has been home for the past few games, not that it’s helped them any, but being at home means you’re not traveling. The Wizards know they’re facing a crossroads and they need a win in the worst way. Look for Washington to take advantage of the fatigue factor and grind out a win in this one.

The win took the Aggies to 7-6 in the Mountain West, but it’s still not a game the Broncos should lose. They had a seven point halftime lead until the Aggies outscored them 44-31 in the second half to win the game. Senior guard Chandler Hutchinson definitely wasn’t to blame. The Bulldogs are limiting opponents to 40% shooting, ranking them 22nd in the country in field goal defense, and they are up against a weak shooting Vanderbilt team. Furthermore, Mississippi State has scored over 80 points in their last two road games, and Vanderbilt is well below average defensively. The Bulldogs have won four out of their last five games, plus they already notched an 80-62 win against Vanderbilt this season, and they should prevail again in this one.

The Ramblers have been a strong team all year and they have a huge edge on defense, especially here at home where they have allowed just 62.0 ppg on the year, while the Bulldogs have allowed 77.1 ppg on the road so far. The Loyola defense had a bad showing in their game against the Bears, but I look for that defense to bounce back and lead them to a win in this game of at least 12 points. The clincher is the fact that the Ramblers are 8-1 ATS their last nine games against the Missouri Valley Conference.

Marquette shot 46.2 percent from the field and went five of 18 from three point range while getting beaten 32-22 on the glass. The Golden Eagles allowed the Bulldogs to shoot 60 percent from the floor and eight of 14 from long range. Markus Howard paced Marquette with 26 points in the loss. The Golden Eagles are 34th in the nation in scoring offense with 82 points per game. Marquette is currently 333rd in rebounding with 32 boards per contest but stands tied for 52nd in assists with 16 per game. The Golden Eagles are 299th in scoring defense as they allow 77.5 points a night so far this year. Andrew Rowsey is second on Marquette with 19.5 points plus 4.1 assists per game. Markus Howard is averaging a team high 21.9 points per game, Sam Hauser puts up 14 a night and Hannif Cheatham added 8.2 points per contest. Cheatham left the team in late November and announced that he was going to transfer to Florida Gulf Coast in mid-December. Matt Heldt, Jamal Cain, Sacar Anim and Theo John are secondary contributors for coach Steve Wojciechowski. Marquette is shooting 47.1 percent from the floor this season. The Golden Eagles hit 11.1 three pointers a night on 39.9 percent shooting from beyond the arc. Marquette is very good at the free throw line as they convert 79.2 percent of their chances at the stripe this season. That number is good for third in the nation. COLLEGE HOOPS 75 DIME GAME NEBRASKA +1.5 Nebraska continued its strong effort on the defensive end, holding Ohio State to just 44.2 percent shooting, including just 2-of-14 from 3-point range, after OSU entered the game leading the Big Ten in field goal percentage in conference play. The Huskers have now held their last eight opponents under 45 percent shooting. I have them by 6 points or more
