2006 Holiday Bowl Picks

The 2006 Holiday Bowl will feature a couple of schools that have had rough finishes to their seasons in Texas A&M and California. Each team enters the game at 9-3 and looking to reach the double digit plateau for win totals.

The Aggies started out with 4 straight wins and victories in 8 of their first 9 before losing close ones to Oklahoma and Nebraska. The team then rebounded with an upset over Texas, which eventually gave the Big 12 title to Oklahoma. The last time Texas A&M was in the Holiday Bowl it put up 65 points, which was the most by any team in bowl history, eventually broken by Nebraska in 2000.

California started the season off with a blowout loss at Tennessee but then rattled off 8 straight victories. However, the team fell off down the stretch and ended up losing 2 out of their last 3. They have been to four straight bowls and are lead by Pac 10 Offensive Player of the Year in Marshawn Lynch. DeSean Jackson is also a threat who has taken four punts back for a touchdown.

Eight straight underdogs have covered in the Holiday Bowl which bodes well for A&M. However, it seems that the Holiday Bowl for the favorite has been a disappointment, but in this case Cal faded down the home stretch and deserves what they got here. The Aggies though have covered their last seven games while the Golden Bears lost their last 5 ATS.
