Many people where surprised when looking at the 2006 MPC Computers Bowl Odds to see that Miami was more than a field goal favorite over Nevada. On paper it looks like the Wolfpack should be able to handle the Hurricanes, after all they went 8-4 SU and 10-2 ATS while Miami was only 6-6 SU and 4-7 ATS. However, what role will motivation play in this one. The guys are saying good bye to Larry Coker and they were 2-5 this year against bowl teams, losing by 8.4 ppg. Nevada was only 1-4 against bowl bound teams but losing by 19.5 ppg.
The Hurricanes have been plagued this year by controversy, having a player shot and killed and getting into a bench clearing brawl against Florida International. Miami was supposed to compete for a national title, not go 6-6. Somehow the team barely crept into a bowl by winning their season finale against BC, but that was after they had lost four straight games. The offense is going to have to do something if Miami is going to compete though as they have managed just 19.5 ppg this year.
Nevada is a team that is going to be familiar with the blue turf in Boise as they play them annually in the WAC. The Wolfpack were rolling until losing 38-7 back on November 25th, having had won five straight by an average of 33 points. Their offense is deadly at 31 ppg, ranking 13th in the country. However, they could have their hands full against Miami, who is letting the opposition put up just 15 ppg.
