11-08-22 | Coyotes v. Sabres -190 | 4-1 | Loss | -190 | 9 h 36 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Coyotes are looking to build off a recent win and pull off an upset on the road. The problem is that the Sabres are looking to bounce back from two rough losses and control this game from the opening puck drop. The Sabres, who average 4.08 goals per game, should find the back of the net at will with Tage Thompson, Alex Tuch, and the rest of the forward unit establishing a strong offensive zone presence and creating open shots with great puck movement. The Sabres should also limit a Coyotes offense that is scoring only 2.82 goals per game with Rasmus Dahlin, Owen Power, and the rest of the unit stepping up and creating turnovers in the defensive zone and limiting shots on the net. |
11-07-22 | Blues v. Bruins -178 | 1-3 | Win | 100 | 10 h 48 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Bruins are having a great season with their offense scoring 4.17 goals per game including 21 goals in the last five games. David Pastrnak and Patrice Bergeron have scored 12 goals and 17 assists while defenseman Hampus Lindholm is adding four goals and nine assists from the point but the rest of the offense has also been great. Taylor Hall, Jake DeBrusk, and David Krejci have combined for 11 goals and 15 assists while Charlie Coyle, Nick Foligno, and Pavel Zacha have added 10 goals and 11 assists to the backend of the forward unit, giving the Bruins multiple great forward lines. Additionally, goaltender Linus Ullmark is having a great season in the net with a .929 save percentage and a 2.16 goals-against average on 283 shots. |
11-01-22 | Seattle Kraken v. Flames -220 | 5-4 | Loss | -220 | 4 h 23 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The offense has carried the Flames but the defense has also stepped up, allowing only 2.86 goals per game. Michael Stone and Nikita Zadorov have led the top two pairings but the rest of the defense has also stepped up with Rasmus Andersson, MacKenzie Weegar, and the rest of the unit creating turnovers in all three zone and limiting shots on the net. In addition, Jacob Markstrom has stepped up in the net with a .903 save percentage and a 2.60 goals-against average on 144 shots. |
11-01-22 | Predators v. Oilers -157 | 4-7 | Win | 100 | 4 h 18 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Oilers are having a great season led by an offense that is scoring 3.78 goals per game including 18 goals in the last four games. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl have scored 13 goals and 21 assists to lead the top two lines but the entire offense has been great. Zach Hyman, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, and Evander Kane have scored 13 goals and 17 assists while defensemen Darnell Nurse and Tyson Barrie have added three goals and six assists from the point to overwhelm opposing defenses. |
11-01-22 | Bruins +109 v. Penguins | 6-5 | Win | 109 | 3 h 15 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Bruins and Penguins are heading in opposite directions at the moment with the Penguins losers of four straight and the Bruins winners of five straight. Boston currently leads the NHL in goals per game and is also #2 in goals against average and 4th in save percentage. The Penguins are 11th in save percentage and 21st in goals allowed. Boston should have Marchand available in this one which will strengthen their top two lines and make the Bruins' specialty units even better. Marchand makes the second-best penalty-killing unit even better and really gives life to what has been the 13th-best power-play unit. Boston produces a ton of shots on net and should roll against a Penguins team that is floundering right now. |
10-31-22 | Capitals v. Hurricanes -168 | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 9 h 40 m | Show
Rating: 2 units The Hurricanes are off to a strong start to the season with their offense scoring 3.25 goals per game. Martin Necas and Andrei Svechnikov have scored 12 goals and eight assists to lead the top line but the rest of the offense has also been great. Jordan Martinook, Stefan Noesen, and Seth Jarvis have combined for four goals and seven assists while defensemen Brent Burns and Brady Skjei have added three goals and eight assists from the point to overwhelm opposing defenses. |
10-28-22 | Penguins -164 v. Canucks | 1-5 | Loss | -164 | 10 h 30 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Pittsburgh had enough time to rest, while Vancouver will be playing the second of back-to-back games. They didn’t have to travel a lot, though, as they returned from nearby Seattle, but still, the Penguins have the advantage in that regard. That’s not the only upper hand the Penguins had. Pittsburgh has the highest-scoring offense in the NFL and will face one of the worst defensive teams. After scoring just four goals in total in two losses to Edmonton and Calgary, I expect the visitors to bounce back with at least four in this one. That’s shouldn’t be a problem as the Canucks allowed 4+ goals in six of their eight games this season. |
10-28-22 | Avalanche -130 v. Devils | 0-1 | Loss | -130 | 8 h 34 m | Show
Rating: 2 units The offense has been great but the defense hopes to improve, allowing 3.14 goals per game. Ryan Graves and John Marino have combined for 1.2 defensive point shares and 14 blocked shots to lead the top two pairings but the rest of the defense has struggled, allowing opponents to easily find open shots on the net. Furthermore, goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood has struggled in the net with a .871 save percentage and a 2.81 goals-against average on 101 shots. |
10-28-22 | Islanders v. Hurricanes -184 | 6-2 | Loss | -184 | 7 h 26 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Hurricanes are off to a great start to the season with their offense stepping up and scoring 3.33 goals per game. Andrei Svechnikov, Martin Necas, and Stefan Noesen have scored 10 goals and 11 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has also stepped up. Seth Jarvis, Teuvo Teravainen, and Jordan Martinook have combined for three goals and five assists while defensemen Brent Burns and Brady Skjei have added a goal and six assists from the blue line to overwhelm opposing defenses. |
10-27-22 | Canadiens v. Sabres -160 | 3-2 | Loss | -160 | 11 h 43 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Canadiens have lost four of their last six games and both road games they have played. They have struggled offensively so far, especially on the road where they are averaging 0.5 goals per game. They’ve also struggled on special teams, converting only 4.8 percent of their power play opportunities. Things won’t get easier for them in this game because the Sabres have played well defensively, especially at home, and they’ve done a great job killing penalties, so don’t expect them to have a hard time slowing down the Canadiens. |
10-27-22 | Red Wings v. Bruins -215 | 1-5 | Win | 100 | 11 h 30 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Red Wings are off to a great start but the Bruins have looked like one of the best teams in the NHL and I see them controlling the game in all three zones. The Bruins, who average 4.14 goals per game, should pile on the goals with David Pastrnak, Patrice Bergeron, and the rest of the forward unit controlling the puck in the offensive zone and creating open shots with great centering passes while Hampus Lindholm generates shots on the net from the blue line. The Bruins, who allow only 2.86 goals per game, should also limit the Red Wings' offense with Hampus Lindholm, Connor Clifton, and the rest of the unit creating turnovers in the defensive zone and limiting shots on the net, allowing Jeremy Swayman to step up and make plenty of easy saves. |
10-26-22 | Lightning -135 v. Ducks | 4-2 | Win | 100 | 12 h 29 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Anaheim and coach Dallas Eakins are off to a slow start in their fourth season together: The Ducks have one win and three points after six games. They also own the NHL's worst goal-differential mark at minus-14, a pace that comes out to minus-191 over the 82-game season. Since beating the Seattle Kraken on home ice to open the new campaign, the Ducks are 0-4-1 and have lost the scoring battle 23-9. After Anaheim fell 5-1 against the Detroit Red Wings to close out a five-game road trip on Sunday, first-year Ducks center Ryan Strome said he recognizes the problem but added it's up to him and his new teammates to fix it. |
10-26-22 | Rangers v. Islanders -130 | 0-3 | Win | 100 | 2 h 17 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Islanders have the rest factor, which is always important in hockey. The Isles are also 4-0 their last 4 playing on two day's rest. They are also 6-2 in the last 8 in this series. This game is also about goaltending and the Islanders have the edge with Sorokin in net, who has been much sharper this season. |
10-24-22 | Capitals v. Devils -125 | 6-3 | Loss | -125 | 5 h 37 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units New Jersey has gotten solid goaltending work out of Blackwood, who is 3-1-0 with a 2.02 GAA in the early going this season. The Devils have a lot of young talent along with the infusion of veteran leadership in the form of Ondrej Palat. Washington can’t afford to go down multiple goals in this game because it will be a challenge to get back in the game. Give the upper hand to the Devils at home as they make it four straight wins. |
10-23-22 | Islanders v. Panthers -188 | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 8 h 55 m | Show
Rating: 2 units The New York Islanders face the Florida Panthers with both teams heading in opposite directions to start the season. The Islanders are 2-3 and have lost back-to-back games while the Panthers have a 3-1-1 record and look like one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. The two teams met earlier this season with the Panthers winning 3-1 but the Islanders are looking to even up the score and return to .500 on the season. |
10-22-22 | Wild v. Bruins -109 | 3-4 | Win | 100 | 3 h 11 m | Show
Rating: 2 units The Bruins are starting to get some players back, including Grzelcyk who should help the defensive pairings. Thus far, the Bruins seem to be generating offense despite the absence of 2021-22 leading scorer Marchand. David Pastrnak and Patrice Bergeron have led the way with eight and six points respectively and Jake DeBrusk has three goals and five points since returning from injury. The Wild have struggled on the defensive end, allowing 5.75 GAA and saving just .833% of shots on their net. Meanwhile, the Wild are only converting on 10% of their shots on goal compared with 12% for the Bruins. Boston has better special teams, is better off the draw and stronger defensively. |
10-21-22 | Lightning v. Panthers -105 | 3-2 | Loss | -105 | 9 h 16 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Lightning are off to a slow start with their offense scoring only 10 goals in their first four games. While Steven Stamkos, Nikita Kucherov, and Brayden Point have combined for seven goals and seven assists to lead the top two lines, the rest of the offense has struggled. The Panthers are having a great start to the season with their offense stepping up and scoring 3.50 goals per game. Matthew Tkachuk, Colin White, and Sam Bennett have scored five goals and nine assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has also stepped up. Aleksander Barkov, Eetu Luostarinen, and Carter Verhaeghe have combined for three goals and six assists while defensemen Gustav Forsling and Radko Gudas have added one goal and five assists from the point to open up the offense. |
10-20-22 | Devils v. Islanders -149 | 4-1 | Loss | -149 | 7 h 13 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Devils are looking to build off a strong win and pull off the upset in the upcoming game. The problem is that the Islanders have played great recently and look to control this game from the first period. The Islanders, who have scored 12 goals in the last two games, should pile on the goals with Brock Nelson, Anders Lee, and the rest of the forward unit establishing a strong offensive zone presence and creating open shots with quick passes while Noah Dobson fires shots on the net from the blue line. The Islanders also look to limit the Devils' offense with Adam Pelech, Ryan Pulock, and the rest of the defense creating turnovers in the defensive zone and limiting shots on the net, allowing goaltender Ilya Sorokin to make plenty of big saves. The Islanders should win the game with a strong performance on their home ice. |
10-19-22 | Blues -120 v. Seattle Kraken | 4-3 | Win | 100 | 11 h 4 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Blues, who opened with a 5-2 victory against visiting Columbus on Saturday by scoring three unanswered goals in the third period, will return to the ice tonight in Seattle, opening a three-game trip that includes stops in Edmonton and Winnipeg. The Blues won all three games against the expansion Kraken last season, outscoring them 11-2. The Kraken opened the season by taking three of a possible four points on a Southern California swing to Anaheim and Los Angeles, but have struggled since returning home to Climate Pledge Arena. They fell behind by five goals in a 5-2 loss to Vegas on Saturday, then dropped a 5-1 decision to Carolina on Monday. |
10-18-22 | Kings v. Predators -150 | 4-3 | Loss | -150 | 12 h 29 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Predators are coming off back-to-back losses and are looking to make a statement on their home ice and as a result, look to control this game from the opening puck drop. The Predators' offense looks to step up and pile on the goals against a Kings’ defense that allows 4.67 goals per game with Nino Niederreiter, Ryan Johansen, and the rest of the forward unit controlling the puck in the offensive zone and finds open shots on the net while Roman Josi steps up and fires shots on the net from the blue line. The Predators also look to step up on the defensive end of the ice with Roman Josi, Dante Fabbro, and the rest of the unit creating turnovers in the defensive zone and limiting shots on the net, allowing goaltender Juuse Saros to step up and make big saves throughout the game. The Predators should win the game with a strong performance on their home ice. |
10-17-22 | Kings v. Red Wings UNDER 6.5 | 5-4 | Loss | -100 | 4 h 53 m | Show
Rating; 2 Units Jonathan Quick is definitely better than the beginning of the season has show shown while Ville Husso is every bit as good as his first game indicated. Quick still has a .903 save percentage, which is decent but needs to be better. Neither team has been aggressive in order to get shots up as the Kings are attempting 30.3 shots per game, which is 19th in this young season while the Red Wings are shooting 31 shots per game, which ranks 18th. The under has hit in each of the previous four Kings games against Eastern Conference opponents as well as being 7-2-1 in the last 10 Red Wings Monday games. |
10-15-22 | Lightning v. Penguins -140 | 2-6 | Win | 100 | 10 h 42 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The offense carried the Penguins but the defense also stepped up, allowing only two goals in the opening night win. Kris Letang and Brian Dumoulin led the top pairing but the entire unit stepped up with Jeff Petry, Marcus Pettersson, and the rest of the defense creating turnovers in the neutral zone and defensive zone while also limiting shots on the net. Additionally, goaltender Tristan Jarry looks to build off a start where he saved 26 of the 28 shots he faced. |
10-14-22 | Rangers +113 v. Jets | 1-4 | Loss | -100 | 11 h 44 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units New York played well defensively, giving up one goal in their win over the Lightning. They also did a good job on special teams, killing 83.3 percent of their penalties. They will need another solid defensive effort if they want to get the win. In his last start, Igor Shesterkin saved 25 of the 26 shots he faced, finishing the game with a 1.01 GAA and a .962 save percentage. He is 3-0-0 in three games against the Jets with a 0.69 GAA and a .983 save percentage. |
10-13-22 | Stars v. Predators -130 | 4-1 | Loss | -130 | 6 h 40 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units While the offense has stepped up, the defense has been dominant early on this year, allowing only three goals in the first two games. Roman Josi and Alexandre Carrier have led the top pairing but Ryan McDonagh, Mattias Ekholm, and Dante Fabbro have also stepped up to help round out the defense. Moreover, goaltender Juuse Saros had a remarkable first start of the season where he saved 30 of the 31 shots he faced. |
10-12-22 | Bruins v. Capitals -131 | 5-2 | Loss | -131 | 4 h 38 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Both teams come in banged up but the Bruins will have more to overcome in this one without their #1 defenseman in McAvoy and arguably their best winger on both the power play and penalty kill in Marchand. Montgomery wants to instill a defensive mindset for the Bruins but losing two key pieces that protect the back line will impact the Bruins for much of the first month of the season. Washington comes in banged up as well but has the firepower to do damage against the depleted Bruins' defense. Expect a fairly tight game but one that will be controlled by the Capitals. The Caps have a number of key veterans on expiring deals that will come out with something to prove this season. The first team to face their wrath will be Boston. |
06-24-22 | Lightning v. Avalanche -171 | 3-2 | Loss | -171 | 6 h 49 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Lightning are hoping to extend this series and should put together their best performance of the series as a result. The problem is that the Avalanche have controlled this series in all three zones and with the Stanley Cup in the building, they look to close out the series on their home ice. The Avalanche, who have averaged 4.5 goals per game in the playoffs, should constantly find the back of the net with Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, and the rest of the forward unit establishing a strong offensive zone presence and creating open shots with great puck movement in the offensive zone to catch the Lightning defense out of position. The Avalanche should also build off a Game Four where they only allowed two goals and limit the Lightning offense with Cale Makar, Devon Toews, and the rest of the defensive unit forcing turnovers in the neutral zone and defensive zone while limiting shots on the net, allowing goaltender Darcy Kuemper to step up and make plenty of big saves in the net. The Avalanche should win Game Five to win the Stanley Cup Final with a strong game on their home ice. |
06-22-22 | Avalanche v. Lightning +100 | 3-2 | Loss | -100 | 11 h 18 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Avalanche are looking to bounce back after Game Three and take a 3-1 series lead. The problem is that the Lightning have taken the momentum of the series after a decisive victory and look to once again overwhelm the Avalanche in all three zones. The Lightning look to build off a six-goal game and constantly find the back of the net with Nikita Kucherov, Steven Stamkos, and the rest of the forward unit controlling the puck in the offensive zone and creating open shots with great puck movement. The Lightning, who allowed only two goals in the recent game also look to limit the Avalanche offense with Victor Hedman, Mikhail Sergachev, and the rest of the unit creating turnovers in the defensive zone and limiting shots on the net, allowing goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy to once again step up and make plenty of big saves. The Lightning should win Game Four to even up the series with a decisive victory on their home ice. |
06-20-22 | Avalanche v. Lightning -106 | 2-6 | Win | 100 | 9 h 30 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Avalanche have controlled the series thus far and look to win the upcoming game to take a commanding 3-0 series lead. The problem is that the Lightning return to their home ice and look to bounce back with their backs to the wall in the series. The Lightning offense should rebound after being shutout in Game Two and pile on the goals with Nikita Kucherov, Ondrej Palat, and the rest of the forward unit establishing a strong offensive zone presence and creating open shots on the net with great centering passes. The Lightning should also limit the Avalanche offense with Victor Hedman, Jan Rutta, and the rest of the defensive unit stepping up at the blue line to limit the Avalanche from creating open shots on the rush while also limiting shooting lanes, allowing goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy to step up and blanks shots on the net. The Lightning should win Game Three in a much-needed bounce-back performance. |
06-18-22 | Lightning +138 v. Avalanche | 0-7 | Loss | -100 | 9 h 53 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Avalanche controlled the majority of Game One and look to win once again on their home ice to take a 2-0 series lead. The problem is that the Lightning flipped the momentum of Game One and after forcing overtime, look to step up and overwhelm the Avalanche on both ends of the ice. The Lightning, who scored twice in the second period, should find the back of the net throughout the game with Steven Stamkos, Ondrej Palat, and the rest of the forward unit establishing a strong offensive zone presence and creating open shots with great puck movement and strong passes near the net. The Lightning should also limit the Avalanche offense with Victor Hedman, Jan Rutta, and the rest of the defensive unit stepping up and creating turnovers at the blue line while cutting off angles to the net on the rush to limit the Avalanche speed, allowing goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy to once again step up and make plenty of big saves in the net. The Lightning should win Game Two to even up the series while providing great odds in the process as road Underdogs. |
06-11-22 | Rangers v. Lightning -195 | 1-2 | Win | 100 | 9 h 53 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Lightning, who snapped New York's eight-game home winning streak on Thursday, have won six straight home games. Two of their three wins this round have come on late goals by Palat, who became the first player in NHL history to score a playoff game-winning goal in the last two minutes twice in the same year. The Lightning also scored a late winner against the Florida Panthers last round. The Lightning have an 8-2 record of closing out a series that they lead 3-2. The Rangers have a 7-19 mark when trailing by that margin. Teams that win Game 5 to take a 3-2 lead in Stanley Cup playoffs have gone on to win the series 78.5 percent of the time (223-61). The Lightning have the upper hand and deserve it with the way they played the last three games. |
06-05-22 | Rangers v. Lightning -174 | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 2 h 32 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Tampa Bay Lightning have lost back-to-back playoff games for the first time in nearly three years, and it is going to be a massive challenge for the New York Rangers to make it three in a row. Tampa heads back home where it has been strong in the postseason thus far, going 4-1 at Amalie Arena. The Lightning have not played their best hockey in this series, but all we have seen from them in the last two postseasons is how resilient this group is. One player to keep your eyes on for them is Nikita Kucherov. In the first two games, Kucherov has only recorded one goal and one assist, and I don’t know if the Rangers will be able to continuously shut him down. He has been an incredible playoff performer in his entire career, so I imagine that he will start to get back into stride at some point soon. Andrei Vasilevskiy had a much better showing in Game 2 than what we saw in Game 1, and I have a feeling he will look even sharper on home ice. Vasilevskiy and Igor Shesterkin are essentially neck and neck when it comes to statistics so neither team really has a goaltending advantage. Tampa is going to come out of the gate with a ton of fight today and it is tough to bet against the two-time defending champs on home ice with their backs against the wall. |
06-04-22 | Avalanche v. Oilers +118 | 4-2 | Loss | -100 | 8 h 6 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Oilers have fared well when their backs have been against the wall. However, Colorado may be too tall of a task. While Edmonton has a deep and powerful roster, it is not as sound defensively, nor in net, as Colorado. Also, the Avalanche’s offensive depth is just a bit more dangerous. Mike Smith has shown that even at the ripe age of 40, the playoffs won’t phase him. The problem he’s been unpredictable and lacked consistency. Francouz can be a wild card here, too. Coming on in relief in Game 1, he nearly let the Oilers come back from a large deficit. In Game 2, he only faced 24 shots and seven high-danger chances, which means the Avs did an exceptional job protecting him. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the home team take a victory here. Not only were the Oilers elite in front of their home fans during the season, but in the postseason, they’ve taken care of business with a 4-1-1 home record. While I think Colorado takes this series, I think the Oilers make things a wee-bit interesting with a Game 3 victory. |
06-03-22 | Lightning -118 v. Rangers | 2-3 | Loss | -118 | 4 h 31 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Tampa Bay Lightning opened the Eastern Conference finals Wednesday by falling behind in just 71 seconds, then spent the latter part of the game watching the New York Rangers cruise to a 6-2 victory. While the cause of Tampa Bay's sub-par defensive performance might be traced back to a nine-day layoff, the Lightning are not making excuses. If anything, the Rangers now have the full attention of the two-time defending champions. The Lightning are coming off their first playoff loss since dropping Game 5 of the opening round against the Toronto Maple Leafs on May 10. They finished off the Maple Leafs with consecutive one-goal victories and then outscored the Florida Panthers by a 13-3 margin in the second round during an impressive four-game sweep. Additionally, Tampa Bay has won 18 straight playoff games following a loss. |
06-02-22 | Oilers +1.5 v. Avalanche | 0-4 | Loss | -145 | 6 h 1 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Colorado Avalanche are the rightful favorite as they’re at home, have been the more consistent team and have won six of the last nine meetings against the Oilers. However, the Oilers are too talented to pass up the +1.5 PL, and they showed in game 1 they have the horses to hang with the Avs. The Oilers have still won 72.4 percent of their last 29 games, and they’ve lost back-to-back games just twice since March 24. There’s too much value with Edmonton and the PL given the offensive firepower this club has. |
06-01-22 | Lightning v. Rangers +115 | 2-6 | Win | 115 | 2 h 16 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Lightning have won 10 straight postseason series, but are amid their longest break in between series since also getting nine days off following a second-round sweep of the Washington Capitals in 2011. They ended up losing the conference finals to the Boston Bruins in seven games. New York is in the conference finals for the first time since 2015 when it lost in seven games to Tampa Bay. The only remaining player from that group is Chris Kreider, who scored two of his eight postseason goals in Monday's 6-2 rout at Carolina in Game 7 of the second round. Kreider finished with 52 goals during the regular season as the Rangers produced 27 comeback wins four years after telling season ticket holders a rebuild was set to begin. Five times over the first two rounds of these playoffs, the Rangers have pulled off victories when facing elimination against the Pittsburgh Penguins and Hurricanes. Goalie Igor Shesterkin helped the Rangers reach this point by improving his performances. Since being pulled in Game 4 during the first round, he is 7-3 with a .939 save percentage, a 2.09 goals-against average and capped the series with 37 saves Monday. Additionally Igor Shesterkin was 3-0 with a 1.30 GAA vs. the Lightning during the regular season. |
05-30-22 | Rangers v. Hurricanes -142 | 6-2 | Loss | -142 | 7 h 1 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Carolina is 7-0 at home through the first two rounds of the Stanley Cup playoffs, compared to 0-6 on the road. The Hurricanes had an opportunity to finish the series in Game 6 on Saturday night but lost 5-2 in New York. Raanta is a big reason for Carolina's success at home during the playoffs, however, owning a 6-0 record with a 0.97 goals-against average and .965 save percentage. |
05-28-22 | Hurricanes v. Rangers -106 | 2-5 | Win | 100 | 10 h 10 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Carolina is 0-5 on the road against the Hurricanes and their first-round opponent, Boston, and has been outscored 21-8 in those games. The Hurricanes advanced to the brink of finishing the series by turning in their finest performance of the postseason with Thursday's win. New York won three elimination games in the first round to get past the Pittsburgh Penguins and is on a five-game home winning streak since its triple overtime loss in the playoff opener. Igor Shesterkin prevented Game 5 from being more lopsided by making 31 saves. The Rangers are hoping to clean it up defensively in front of Shesterkin, who made 43 saves in Game 3 and 30 in Game 4 and made 99 saves in three elimination games against Pittsburgh. |
05-26-22 | Rangers v. Hurricanes -150 | 1-3 | Win | 100 | 6 h 8 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Carolina hopes to morph back into the good doctor at home today when it plays Game 5 of its Eastern Conference semifinal series against the New York Rangers. The Hurricanes won the first two contests at home in the best-of-seven series before the Rangers stormed back to even the series after a pair of games at New York. Carolina has outscored the opposition by a 22-7 margin at home in the playoffs and boasts a 94.1 percent penalty kill in its own building. Conversely, the Hurricanes have been outscored 21-8 on the road and are just 16-for-23 on the penalty kill (69.6 percent) following Tuesday's 4-1 loss to New York. |

05-24-22 | Flames v. Oilers -106 | 3-5 | Win | 100 | 6 h 29 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Trailing 2-1 in a playoff series is not uncharted territory for the Calgary Flames. They were in this exact situation in their opening-round set with the Dallas Stars before winning three of four games to advance. However, as the Flames prepare for Game 4 of their Western Conference second-round clash at the Edmonton Oilers, they are up against a team that has been dominating play for much of the past two games. On Sunday, the Oilers rode four second-period goals to a 4-1 victory. History will show Evander Kane scored a natural hat trick and Leon Draisaitl set a league record with four assists during that period, but unquestionably the player leading the way is Edmonton captain Connor McDavid, and the onus is on the Flames to find a way to stop him. McDavid, who has amassed 23 points in 10 playoff games, is the first player in NHL history to record nine multi-point games in the first 10 games of a playoff run. Only Wayne Gretzky (29 in 1983, 25 in 1985) and Mario Lemieux (25 in 1992) ever scored more points in the first 10 games of a postseason. |
05-20-22 | Rangers +1.5 v. Hurricanes | 0-2 | Loss | -170 | 7 h 52 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Sebastian Aho scored late in the third period and defenseman Ian Cole tallied 3:12 into overtime to lift Carolina to a 2-1 victory over New York in the series opener on Wednesday. Cole scored his second career NHL playoff goal after his wrist shot from above the right faceoff circle caromed off the stick of Rangers defenseman Ryan Lindgren and past Vezina Trophy finalist Igor Shesterkin. While the Hurricanes won Game 1 for the second straight series in these playoffs, the Rangers find themselves trailing after the opener for the second consecutive time. New York fell in triple overtime in Game 1 of its first-round series to Pittsburgh and overcame a 3-1 deficit in games to eliminate the Penguins. |
05-12-22 | Oilers v. Kings +130 | 4-2 | Loss | -100 | 9 h 23 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units A resilient approach now has the Kings heading into today's home clash against their Pacific Division rival with the opportunity to advance to the next round. After Tuesday's 5-4 overtime victory at Edmonton, the Kings have a 3-2 series lead and an opportunity to close out the best-of-seven matchup in their own building. In NHL history, teams that win Game 5 to take a 3-2 lead have an all-time record of 219-58 (.791) in best-of-seven series. Road teams that won Game 5 to take a 3-2 lead have an 82-25 mark (.764). |
05-12-22 | Wild v. Blues OVER 6.5 | 1-5 | Loss | -100 | 9 h 53 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Vladimir Tarasenko and Karill Kaprizov continue their scoring duel when the St. Louis Blues host the Minnesota Wild in Game 6 of their first-round Western Conference series. Kaprizov scored twice in Game 5 Tuesday to give the Wild a 2-1 lead, but Tarasenko responded with a third-period hat trick to give the Blues a 5-2 victory. Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington has won both starts since replacing Ville Husso in the nets after Game 3. His ability to handle the puck behind the net helped the depleted Blues defense corps, which regained Nick Leddy and Robert Bortuzzo in Game 5 but is still missing regulars Torey Krug and Marco Scandella due to lower-body injuries. Consider that the Over is 10-1-1 in Wild last 12 following a loss of 3 or more goals and 20-7-1 in Wild last 28 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game. |
05-12-22 | Maple Leafs v. Lightning -130 | 3-4 | Win | 100 | 7 h 49 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Toronto Maple Leafs have a chance to win a first-round playoff series for the first time since 2004 tonight when they visit the Tampa Bay Lightning for Game 6. Toronto defeated Tampa Bay 4-3 on Tuesday night at home to take a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series. They have lost in the opening round of the playoffs in their five previous tries, as well as in the 2020 qualifying round. Last season, Toronto even led the Montreal Canadiens 3-1 in a first-round series before falling. Additionally, Tampa Bay has won 16 consecutive playoff games following a loss. |
05-09-22 | Flames v. Stars +1.5 | 4-1 | Loss | -195 | 11 h 20 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units If the Calgary Flames need a history lesson to remind them their situation isn't hopeless, they must only look at what happened the last time they met the Dallas Stars in the Stanley Cup playoffs. As the Flames prepare for tonight's Game 4 in Dallas, they trail the best-of-seven Western Conference first-round series 2-1. It's the same position the Stars were in two years ago, but Dallas went on to beat Calgary three straight times and advance. It would help if Calgary's offensive attack arrived. Meanwhile, Oettinger has posted a 1.01 goals-against average and .969 save percentage while stopping 93 of 96 shots, all in his first opportunity as a starter in the playoffs. His play is a huge reason the Flames have just one power-play goal in a dozen chances. |
05-09-22 | Panthers v. Capitals +1.5 | 3-2 | Win | 100 | 9 h 55 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units It had been nearly four months since any team had held the Florida Panthers to one or fewer goals. The Washington Capitals, who accomplished that feat on Saturday afternoon, will try again tonight when they host the Panthers in Game 4 of their first-round Eastern Conference playoff series. Washington leads the best-of-seven series, 2-1, thanks in part to goalie Ilya Samsonov, who has stopped 46 of the 47 shots sent his way in the series. Samsonov played the third period in Thursday's Game 2 loss and got the start in Saturday's 6-1 win, his first-ever playoff victory. The Capitals now need just 14 more victories after holding the Panthers to their fewest goals since a 5-1 loss at Calgary on Jan. 18. Florida had the NHL's best regular-season record. But the Panthers haven't looked consistently sharp against the eighth-seeded Capitals, who still have a core of players remaining from their 2018 Stanley Cup championship team. |
05-09-22 | Rangers v. Penguins OVER 6 | 2-7 | Win | 100 | 5 h 54 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The first-round playoff matchup between the Pittsburgh Penguins and visiting New York Rangers has heated up off the ice going into Game 4 today. But they're not sniping at each other. Rather, both clubs are expressing faith in their own game. Perhaps that is at least partly due to the way the series has arrived at the Penguins leading 2-1 -- a 4-3 triple-overtime Pittsburgh win, a 5-2 Rangers win and Saturday, as the series shifted to Pittsburgh, a 7-4 Penguins win that featured New York erasing a three-goal deficit only to have Pittsburgh seal it with three goals in the third period. Game 4 also is in Pittsburgh. |
05-08-22 | Maple Leafs v. Lightning -115 | 3-7 | Win | 100 | 9 h 12 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Toronto Maple Leafs already know how difficult it is to beat the Tampa Bay Lightning in back-to-back Stanley Cup playoff games. They will try to accomplish that rare feat when they visit the Lightning in Game 4 of their first-round Eastern Conference playoff series tonight. The Lightning are 16-0 in games following a playoff loss over the past three postseasons, a big reason why they've won the past two Stanley Cup titles. Tampa Bay dropped the opener of the best-of-seven series 5-0 at Toronto on Monday, but came back with a 5-3 win in Game 2 on Wednesday. The Maple Leafs moved back ahead 2-1 in the series with a 5-2 victory in Game 3 on Friday night at Tampa. |
05-08-22 | Wild v. Blues -104 | 2-5 | Win | 100 | 7 h 32 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Consider that the Blues are 21-6 in their last 27 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game, 23-8 in their last 31 vs. Western Conference, and 12-5 in their last 17 vs. Central. In addition, the Wild are 3-10 in the last 13 meetings including 1-7 in the last 8 meetings in St. Louis. |
05-07-22 | Flames v. Stars +1.5 | 2-4 | Win | 100 | 9 h 27 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Heading into today's Game 3 at Dallas, the Flames are well aware of the parallels between their recent playoff failures, especially after a 2-0 defeat to the Stars on Thursday that has the best-of-seven series tied 1-1. The Flames won their opening playoff game in the first round in both 2019 and 2020, but lost both second games on the way to being eliminated. The Flames, who won the opener 1-0 against the Stars on Tuesday, are getting placed under the microscope. Despite being one of the highest-scoring teams in the league, an early Game 1 power-play goal by Elias Lindholm in the opener is their only score, despite holding a significant edge in shots. A big factor in Calgary's offensive struggles has been Dallas goaltender Jake Oettinger, who has risen to the occasion in his first two NHL playoff starts. Oettinger has stopped 54 of 55 shots and has a shutout streak of 114 minutes, 59 seconds. |
05-07-22 | Rangers -110 v. Penguins | 4-7 | Loss | -110 | 7 h 2 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Rangers have been doing their part on special teams. New York is 2-for-5 on its power play, plus a short-handed goal, while Pittsburgh's power play is 1-for-6. In addition, New York has scored first in each of the first two games, and the Penguins have not led at any point outside of Tuesday's winning goal. The Penguins went into the series without No. 1 goaltender Tristan Jarry and second-line winger Jason Zucker, both with lower-body injuries. Over the first two games, they have lost No. 2 goaltender Casey DeSmith (abdomen), top-pairing defenseman Brian Dumoulin (lower body) and second-line winger Rickard Rakell (upper body). |
05-07-22 | Panthers v. Capitals +1.5 | 1-6 | Win | 100 | 1 h 56 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Florida Panthers lacked focus in Game 1, while the Washington Capitals did not execute to their standards in Game 2. The result: The squads are tied 1-1 in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference first-round playoff series, with the scene shifting to Washington, D.C., on Saturday afternoon for Game 3. A key issue for the Capitals was the absence of forward Tom Wilson in Game 2 due to a lower-body injury. His status for Saturday is undetermined. The Capitals won the opener of the series 4-2 before losing 5-1 on Thursday and yet do not appear to truly have gotten on track. Washington's Alex Ovechkin, one of the most prolific scores in NHL history, has no goals with two assists in the two games. Ovechkin has been active, however, with nine shots on goal and 10 hits. |
05-06-22 | Hurricanes +1.5 v. Bruins | 2-4 | Loss | -225 | 7 h 22 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Regardless of where the games take place, the Carolina Hurricanes have delivered dominating efforts against the Boston Bruins all season. Entering tonight's Game 3 of an Eastern Conference first-round series, Carolina has won all five regular-season and playoff meetings between the teams by a combined 26-4 score. The Hurricanes took command of the series with a 2-0 lead after Wednesday's 5-2 win in which they had three 5-on-3 advantages and scored two power-play goals. |
05-02-22 | Kings v. Oilers -180 | 4-3 | Loss | -180 | 7 h 36 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The hardware collected by Edmonton Oilers stars Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl the past several years would require a mammoth trophy case. As the Oilers prepare to host the Los Angeles Kings today to kick off the opening round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, that dynamic duo is well aware that the time has come to lead the squad to more team success. Despite all achieved by McDavid, who is in his seventh NHL season, and Draisaitl, in his eighth campaign, they have won just one playoff series -- in 2017. The Oilers have been knocked out in their first series in each of the past two years. Consider that the Home team is 20-8 in the last 28 meetings. While Oilers netminder Mike Smith has won nine straight starts. |
05-02-22 | Blues +115 v. Wild | 4-0 | Win | 115 | 6 h 11 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units St. Louis is expected to have center Brayden Schenn back in the lineup after he missed the past four games with an upper-body injury. Schenn was limited to 62 games this season, but still managed 24 goals and 58 points. Berube and Minnesota coach Dean Evason did not reveal their starting goalies for Game 1. Minnesota is likely to go with veteran Marc-Andre Fleury, who started four of the last five games for the Wild. Fleury was 9-2-0 with a 2.74 goals-against average and .910 save percentage in 11 starts following his trade from the Chicago Blackhawks in March. The Blues are expected to start Ville Husso, who went 9-0-2 over an 11-game stretch before losing the regular-season finale against the Vegas Golden Knights. Consider that the Blues are 13-3 in the last 16 meetings including 5-2 in the last 7 meetings in Minnesota. |
04-26-22 | Hurricanes v. Rangers -112 | 4-3 | Loss | -112 | 7 h 57 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Carolina Hurricanes have reached perhaps the defining moment of their regular season on a bit of a roll -- and in a tough spot in terms of goaltending. In tonight's important showdown against the host New York Rangers, the Hurricanes might be counting on Pyotr Kochetkov in his third career NHL game. Kochetkov played in the first two games of this road trip, first in a full outing at New Jersey and then in relief Sunday when Antti Raanta exited with an injury against the New York Islanders. Raanta's situation comes after No. 1 goalie Frederik Andersen suffered a lower-body injury April 16. Carolina (52-20-8, 112 points) can wrap up the Metropolitan Division title with a victory, while the Rangers (51-22-6, 108 points) must win to stay alive for the divisional crown. Consider that the Hurricanes are 6-21 in the last 27 meetings in New York. |
04-23-22 | Maple Leafs v. Panthers -148 | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 9 h 36 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Florida Panthers will take aim at a franchise-record 13th consecutive victory tonight when they meet the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs. The Panthers defeated the Detroit Red Wings 5-2 on Thursday to extend their winning streak and match the franchise record of 12 straight set from Dec. 15, 2015 to Jan. 10, 2016. Coupled with the Maple Leafs' 8-1 road loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday, the Panthers have clinched the Eastern Conference's top seed and have a chance to beat out the Colorado Avalanche for top spot in the league overall. The Panthers (56-15-6, 118 points) and the Maple Leafs (51-21-6, 108 points) have split two games this season. Florida overcame a 5-1 deficit at home to defeat Toronto 7-6 in overtime on April 5. It was win No. 5 in the 12-game streak. |
04-23-22 | Canadiens v. Senators -145 | 4-6 | Win | 100 | 9 h 31 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Following Thursday's 6-3 home loss to Philadelphia, the Canadiens have been outscored 31-12 while dropping seven straight in regulation. The team lost seven in a row from Nov. 29-Dec. 14 and 10 straight from Jan. 20-Feb. 13. Montreal won seven of eight from Feb. 17-March 5 but is 5-13-4 since. The Canadiens' Carey Price has a 3.36 goals-against average while losing all three of his 2021-22 starts. With teammate Jake Allen bothered by a groin issue, teammate Sam Montembeault might have a chance to end his 0-4-1 starting rut, during which he has a 4.99 goals-against average. |
04-21-22 | Blackhawks v. Kings -234 | 1-4 | Win | 100 | 9 h 52 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Los Angeles Kings can move closer to securing their first playoff appearance since 2018 when they host the Chicago Blackhawks tonight. The Kings (41-27-10, 92 points) enter the game in third place in the Pacific Division, just three points clear of the fourth-place Vegas Golden Knights, who earned a 4-3 overtime victory Wednesday over the Washington Capitals. Los Angeles also is four points behind second-place Edmonton, but the Oilers have a game in hand. Edmonton handled the Dallas Stars 5-2 on Wednesday. The Kings have just four regular-season games remaining, and none are against teams currently in a playoff spot. Along with the matchup vs. the Blackhawks (26-40-11, 63 points), the Kings have games against the Anaheim Ducks, Seattle Kraken and Vancouver Canucks remaining. Additionally the Blackhawks are 18-43 in their last 61 games as a road underdog. |
04-21-22 | Stars v. Flames -210 | 2-4 | Win | 100 | 7 h 29 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Dallas is in a 3-3-2 stretch that has allowed Vegas as well as the Vancouver Canucks (who have 87 points and five games remaining) to close ground. The Stars suddenly are struggling defensively. They dropped a 6-2 clash to Vancouver on Monday, and up next is a Flames team that is more potent than both the Oilers and Canucks. The Flames return home after a 3-2 shootout loss to the Predators on Tuesday but are on a 7-1-1 run and can clinch the Pacific Division title with a victory. Even though they lost in Nashville, a game in which they erased a 2-0 deficit, the Flames believe their game is on the right track. |
04-21-22 | Maple Leafs +1.5 v. Lightning | 1-8 | Loss | -210 | 7 h 34 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Toronto Maple Leafs take a four-game winning streak into a three-game road trip that opens tonight against the Tampa Bay Lightning in a potential first-round playoff matchup. While the Maple Leafs continued to roll with a 5-2 home win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night, the Lightning's struggles continued with a 4-3 loss to the visiting Detroit Red Wings. Toronto (51-20-6, 108 points) is second in the Eastern Conference and Tampa Bay (46-22-8, 100 points) is fifth. A win on Thursday could clinch home-ice advantage for Toronto in the first playoff round. The Lightning, who have won the Stanley Cup for the past two seasons, are in a 3-4-2 funk. |
04-20-22 | Capitals +120 v. Golden Knights | 3-4 | Loss | -100 | 11 h 9 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Washington will be playing the fourth game of a five-game road trip. The Capitals snapped Colorado's nine-game winning streak with a 3-2 victory on Monday in Denver to improve their road record to an NHL-best 24-8-5. They became the first Eastern Conference team to defeat the Avalanche in regulation in Denver this season. The Capitals clinched a playoff spot following the New York Islanders' Sunday night loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Washington is battling both the Pittsburgh Penguins (97 points) for third in the Metropolitan Division and the Boston Bruins (97 points) for wild-card positioning. |
04-20-22 | Stars v. Oilers -150 | 2-5 | Win | 100 | 10 h 52 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The month of April has been up and down for the Stars, who have won consecutive games only once since a three-game winning streak from March 29-April 2. They're 4-3-2 since that streak, and know that they need to put forth better efforts in the final two weeks of the season. The Oilers (44-26-6, 94 points), second in the Pacific Division, head into the contest coming off consecutive 4-0 victories against the Nashville Predators and Vegas Golden Knights. Edmonton has been rolling the past five weeks, going 14-3-2 in its past 19 games after a stretch in which the Oilers won just two of eight games. Overall, the Oilers are 21-8-3 since coach Jay Woodcroft replaced Dave Tippett. |
04-19-22 | Bruins v. Blues -122 | 3-2 | Loss | -122 | 9 h 46 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The streaking St. Louis Blues will try to extend their offensive surge when they host the Boston Bruins today. The Blues (46-20-10, 102 points) have scored four or more goals in their last 12 games -- the longest such stretch in the NHL since the 1992-93 season, when Pittsburgh scored four or more goals in 15 straight games. St. Louis is 11-0-1 during this span with nine consecutive victories, including a 4-2 win at Boston last Tuesday. The Blues are coming off an 8-3 victory in Nashville on Sunday that kept them one point ahead of Minnesota for second place in the Central Division. The Bruins will play without winger David Pastrnak, defenseman Hampus Lindholm and goaltender Linus Ullmark, who remained back in Boston with injuries. |
04-19-22 | Panthers -190 v. Islanders | 3-2 | Win | 100 | 8 h 11 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Florida Panthers will look to extend the NHL's longest active winning streak to 11 games when they visit the New York Islanders tonight. Florida (54-16-6, 114 points) defeated the Detroit Red Wings 6-1 on Sunday for their 10th straight win. The winning streak is the second-longest in team history behind a 12-game run from Dec. 15, 2015, to Jan. 10, 2016. Florida leads the Eastern Conference in points and is vying for the President's Trophy along with the Colorado Avalanche. The Islanders (35-31-9, 79 points) find themselves in an unfamiliar position under coach Barry Trotz -- playing out the string. After three consecutive playoff appearances, the Islanders were eliminated from postseason contention with a 4-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday. |
04-19-22 | Jets v. Rangers -200 | 0-3 | Win | 100 | 8 h 55 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units New York (49-21-6, 104 points) heads into today with a shutout streak of 120 minutes, six seconds after following up Wednesday's 4-0 blanking at Philadelphia with Saturday afternoon's 4-0 win over the visiting Detroit Red Wings. Those two wins gave the Rangers points in 10 of their past 12 games (9-2-1), a stretch in which they have allowed one goal or fewer six times. Their recent performances have pulled them even with the Hurricanes for points in the division, but their 41 regulation wins are one fewer than Carolina entering play Monday. Winnipeg (35-30-11, 81 points) is 10 points behind the Nashville Predators for the second wild-card spot in the West but is also trailing the Vegas Golden Knights (87 points) and Vancouver Canucks (84 points). The Jets, who last missed the playoffs in the 2016-17 season, are on a 2-5-1 slide since winning 11 of 16 (11-4-1) from Feb. 27 to March 30. During the slide, Winnipeg owns losses to the Toronto Maple Leafs, Colorado Avalanche, Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning and has allowed 25 goals in those games. |
04-17-22 | Islanders v. Maple Leafs -195 | 2-4 | Win | 100 | 9 h 1 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Islanders will be without goalie Semyon Varlamov (illness) and defenseman Scott Mayfield (lower-body injury). Forward Cal Clutterbuck is out for the season with a shoulder injury. The Leafs have won two straight and four of their last five games, including a 5-4 overtime victory at Ottawa. Toronto (49-20-6, 104 points) hopes to continue the momentum into the postseason. Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe was happy to see his team rally from a two-goal deficit to eventually win in overtime. "Once we were down, we fought back," Keefe said. "We got down again in the third period, (we) evened the score to get it to overtime, then it's anybody's game from there." Toronto is trying to hold off Tampa Bay for second place in the Atlantic Division and each victory helps. |
04-17-22 | Blues -113 v. Predators | 8-3 | Win | 100 | 8 h 40 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units This will be the fourth contest in a five-game homestand for the Predators at Bridgestone Arena, where they are 24-13-0 this season. The Predators won their first game against the Blues this season 4-3 in overtime on Nov. 11. St. Louis responded with a 5-3 victory on Jan. 17 and 7-4 triumph on March 12. Blues forwards Robert Thomas (two goals, four assists) and Jordan Kyrou (two goals, three assists) have excelled in those three games. For the Predators, forwards Matt Duchene (four goals, three assists) and Ryan Johansen (two goals and two assists) have been productive in the series. Since Ville Husso started Saturday, the Blues likely will turn to Jordan Binnington in goal for this game. Juuse Saros started in net on Saturday for the Predators -- his 10th appearance in 11 games -- so there is a chance David Rittich could go today. |
04-17-22 | Sharks v. Wild -255 | 4-5 | Win | 100 | 8 h 35 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Minnesota (46-21-7, 99 points) is coming off a 6-5 loss in overtime against the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night. The Wild won their previous three games in a row. Marc-Andre Fleury is expected to make his seventh start in net since joining the Wild. The three-time Stanley Cup champion is 5-1-0 with a 2.36 goals-against average and a .929 save percentage since joining the team from the Chicago Blackhawks before the trade deadline. For San Jose, Meier is the top scorer with 73 points (33 goals, 40 assists) in 69 games. Tomas Hertl is next with 61 points (28 goals, 33 assists) in 74 games, and Logan Couture has 50 points (23 goals, 27 assists) in 69 games. If Kahkonen does not play two nights in a row, the Sharks could turn to goaltender James Reimer, who is 18-16-8 with a 2.79 GAA and .914 save percentage on the season. The Wild are determined to end the weekend on a winning note. |
04-16-22 | Devils v. Seattle Kraken -109 | 3-4 | Win | 100 | 10 h 10 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Other than the Vegas Golden Knights making a run to the Stanley Cup Final in 2018 during their initial campaign, most first-year teams struggle -- and Seattle's showing as the NHL's 32nd team is on par with the 1992-93 Tampa Bay Lightning (53 points) but better than the 1992-93 Ottawa Senators (24 points) and 1991-92 San Jose Sharks (39). Seattle (23-44-6, 52 points) is 6-7-0 over its past 13 games since a 1-9-2 skid from Feb. 14-March 10. The Kraken have done well against fellow non-contenders in this stretch, with wins over the Montreal Canadiens, Detroit Red Wings, Arizona Coyotes and Chicago Blackhawks. |
04-16-22 | Golden Knights v. Oilers -120 | 0-4 | Win | 100 | 4 h 21 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Oilers (43-26-6, 92 points), who are second in the Pacific Division, blanked host Nashville 4-0 Thursday as Leon Draisaitl had a hat trick and Mike Smith made 30 saves for his first shutout of the season. Darnell Nurse also scored and Connor McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins each had two assists as the Oilers improved to 6-1-1 in their past eight games. Consider that the Oilers are 35-16 in their last 51 games as a favorite. |
04-16-22 | Wild v. Blues -110 | 5-6 | Win | 100 | 3 h 27 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Wild (46-21-6, 98 points) and Blues (44-20-10, 98 points) head into the game tied for the No. 2 slot, with its home-ice advantage for the first round of the playoffs. Minnesota holds an edge entering the game, having played one fewer game, but the Blues have earned seven more regulation wins, so if the teams wind up tied at the end of the season St. Louis would win the tiebreak nod. The Blues carry a 10-game point streak (9-0-1) into the home game. That run includes a 4-3 overtime victory over the Wild at home on April 8. St. Louis also beat the Wild 6-4 in the Winter Classic at Minneapolis on Jan. 1. |

04-14-22 | Golden Knights v. Flames -153 | 6-1 | Loss | -153 | 12 h 42 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units After a mini-funk, the Flames have won five straight and are closing in on clinching the Pacific Division title. Calgary defensemen Oliver Kylington (27 points) and Erik Gudbranson (17 points) have each missed multiple games but both practiced Wednesday and are trending toward a return. Vegas is 2-8 in its past 10 as a dog. |
04-14-22 | Blues v. Sabres +1.5 | 6-2 | Loss | -130 | 10 h 38 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units I always hammer the Sabres as home puckline dogs (paying -140 here) and it has paid off as Buffalo is 23-14 ATS at home. The team's last home game? Mammoth upset of Carolina. The Blues are on a six-game winning streak but this feels like a bit of a letdown off a big comeback win in Boston on Tuesday and with a huge game vs. Minnesota on Saturday. STL has dropped its past four as a road favorite. |
04-14-22 | Capitals v. Maple Leafs -155 | 3-7 | Win | 100 | 5 h 29 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Important game for both in terms of playoff seeding. Washington is coming off a dominant win Tuesday and Toronto a bad home loss to Buffalo, yet I think this works in the Leafs' favor. More often than not, when a team goes crazy offensively in one game, it has a major letdown in the next. On the flip side, when a good team is embarrassed at home, it generally comes out with major energy the next game. Since returning from his rib injury, Leafs netminder Jack Campbell is undefeated in regulation with a 3-0-1 record. He obviously wasn't in net Tuesday. Toronto won the only previous meeting between the two teams this season, 5-3 in late February in DC. It's a fourth game in six nights for Washington, which has lost its past four in that scenario. |
04-13-22 | Canadiens v. Blue Jackets -157 | 1-5 | Win | 100 | 8 h 14 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Neither has really anything to play for but it frankly would benefit Montreal to lose out to finish with the fewest points in the league and the best chance to win the draft lottery. The Habs are 11 games under .500 on the road and Columbus three over at home. Elvis Merzlikins allowed one goal in Montreal in beating the Canadiens earlier this season. The Jackets are 13-3 in their past 16 as favorites. |
04-12-22 | Lightning -155 v. Stars | 0-1 | Loss | -155 | 7 h 18 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Stars are very good at home but for some reason are starting mega-shaky Scott Wedgewood in net again instead of Jake Oettinger. In addition, winger Alex Radulov (21 points) has been ruled out with an illness. This is more about fading Wedgewood, though, against Andrei Vasilevskiy even though Andrei has lost his past three. Time to get right ahead of the postseason, and he has had a few days off. It's a third game in four nights for Dallas. |
04-12-22 | Sharks v. Predators -195 | 0-1 | Win | 100 | 6 h 52 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units he Sharks are playing out the string and Nashville absolutely can't afford to lose a game like this at home as it chases a playoff spot. I was waiting to make sure that Preds No. 1 goaltender Juuse Saros was cleared to start and he has been. Saros is 22-11 at home with a 2.15 GAA and 2-0 this year vs. San Jose, which has lost six straight games overall and has five road wins in its past 20. |
04-12-22 | Hurricanes -119 v. Rangers | 4-2 | Win | 100 | 5 h 55 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Hurricanes are ranked No. 2 in shots allowed and fourth in faceoff winning percentage, while the Rangers are 15th and 25th, respectively. Carolina owns a plus-380 shot differential, while New York is minus-156 this season. The Rangers posted a 2-0 road victory against the Hurricanes on March 20 despite being outshot 44-18. But New York has a revenge game at Philadelphia coming up on Wednesday, so take Carolina in this spot. |
04-11-22 | Jets v. Canadiens +115 | 4-2 | Loss | -100 | 5 h 55 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Unfortunately, I don't really see a ton of value at Montreal -210 on the puckline, so we'll try for the outright upset. The Jets are playing the second of a back-to-back and expected to be without two of their top scorers in Blake Wheeler and Mark Scheifele. They have combined for 124 points. Scheifele is for sure out. Wheeler is doubtful. |
04-10-22 | Sabres v. Lightning OVER 6.5 | 0-5 | Loss | -105 | 7 h 59 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Consider that the Over is 7-2-1 in Sabres last 10 games as an underdog, 10-4-1 in Sabres last 15 Sunday games, and 14-6-3 in Sabres last 23 in the third game of a 3-in-4 days situation. While the Over is 8-1 in Lightning last 9 vs. a team with a winning % below .400, 5-1 in Lightning last 6 overall, and 5-1 in Lightning last 6 games as a favorite. |
04-09-22 | Coyotes v. Golden Knights OVER 5.5 | 1-6 | Win | 100 | 11 h 25 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Consider that the Over is 8-2-1 in Coyotes last 11 when their opponent allows 5 goals or more in their previous game, 9-3-5 in Coyotes last 17 vs. Pacific, and 5-2-2 in Coyotes last 9 following a loss of 3 or more goals. While the Over is 6-2 in Golden Knights last 8 games as a home favorite, 11-4 in Golden Knights last 15 when their opponent allows 5 goals or more in their previous game, and 19-7-1 in Golden Knights last 27 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game. |
04-09-22 | Sharks v. Canucks OVER 5.5 | 2-4 | Win | 100 | 11 h 21 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Consider that the Over is 5-1 in Sharks last 6 when their opponent scores 5 goals or more in their previous game. While the Over is 7-1-1 in Canucks last 9 after scoring 5 goals or more in their previous game, 6-1 in Canucks last 7 vs. Pacific, 9-2 in Canucks last 11 games as a home favorite, and 9-2-1 in Canucks last 12 vs. a team with a losing record. |
04-09-22 | Canadiens v. Maple Leafs UNDER 7 | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 9 h 35 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Consider that the Under is 3-1-1 in Maple Leafs last 5 home games and 4-1 in the last 5 meetings. |
04-09-22 | Flames v. Seattle Kraken OVER 5.5 | 4-1 | Loss | -120 | 8 h 29 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Consider that the Over is 5-1 in Flames last 6 Saturday games, 16-6-4 in Flames last 26 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game, and 8-3-2 in Flames last 13 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game. While the Over is 2-0-2 in Kraken last 4 Saturday games and 5-2 in Kraken last 7 games playing on 1 days rest. |
04-09-22 | Devils v. Stars OVER 6.5 | 3-1 | Loss | -105 | 4 h 37 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Consider that the Over is 21-6-1 in Devils last 28 road games, 19-6-1 in Devils last 26 games as a road underdog, 20-7-3 in Devils last 30 after allowing 5 goals or more in their previous game, and 27-11-2 in Devils last 40 games as an underdog. While the Over is 5-2-1 in Stars last 8 when their opponent allows 5 goals or more in their previous game and 13-6-1 in Stars last 20 home games. |
04-08-22 | Islanders v. Hurricanes -172 | 2-1 | Loss | -172 | 10 h 34 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The New York Islanders and Carolina Hurricanes have continued down opposite paths since meeting in the season opener. The teams are far apart in the Metropolitan Division standings heading into their Friday night matchup in Raleigh, N.C. The Hurricanes sit atop the division standings as they gear up for another postseason run, while the Islanders are peeking ahead to next season. New York and Carolina met on Oct. 14 in Raleigh, and the Hurricanes won 6-3 behind two goals and an assist from Andrei Svechnikov. The clubs haven't faced off since. Carolina (46-17-8, 100 points) remained hot after the season-opening victory, winning its first nine games. The Hurricanes haven't slowed much, owning the top spot in the division standings for most of the season and officially clinching a playoff berth with a 5-3 home win against the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday night. Consider that the Islanders are 0-9 in the last 9 meetings. |
04-07-22 | Predators v. Senators +1.5 | 3-2 | Win | 100 | 19 h 42 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units We will keep hammering our home puckline dogs, getting the Sens +1.5 Thursday at a reasonable price of -150. They did lose in Nashville 4-1 a little over a week ago, but Ottawa has won three in a row since and generally doesn't lose by more than one at home if it doesn't win outright -- at least in recent weeks. The Preds may be in letdown mode off Tuesday's home upset of Minnesota and also looking ahead to a home game against the high-flying Panthers on Saturday. Nashville has dropped its past three away. |
04-07-22 | Flyers v. Blue Jackets -124 | 4-1 | Loss | -124 | 7 h 22 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units he Blue Jackets won 4-2 in Philadelphia on Tuesday to snap a seven-game losing streak, and Columbus is a much better team at home. The Jackets still have outside playoff hopes, while Philly is playing out the string and has all of nine road wins. The Flyers are 30th in the NHL at just 2.57 goals per game and the power play is last at 12.8 percent. Columbus has won 14 of its past 17 as a favorite. |
04-06-22 | Canucks v. Golden Knights -165 | 5-1 | Loss | -165 | 10 h 51 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Vancouver has lost three straight and nine of 12 and is really banged up. Brock Boeser (19 goals, 19 assists) is for sure out Wednesday and Quinn Hughes (5G, 48A) is in doubt. Vegas prevailed 3-2 in OT at Vancouver on Sunday and has won five in a row. No. 1 goaltender Robin Lehner returned Sunday from a long injury absence and looked pretty good. The Knights also have won five in a row at home |
04-06-22 | Flames v. Ducks +1.5 | 4-2 | Loss | -110 | 10 h 46 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Anaheim is in a free-fall, but Calgary has lost three of four and that win was by a goal at the Kings on Monday (which we won on the puckline). With the Flames playing again Thursday in San Jose, I believe there's a good chance it's backup Dan Vladar in net here. Again, I don't think the Ducks have much of a chance to win, but getting them -120 against taking Calgary -260 on the road is the smart wager. Anaheim is 20-17 ATS at home. |
04-05-22 | Wild v. Predators +1.5 | 2-6 | Win | 100 | 8 h 39 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Wild are playing great hockey, but this is their third straight very tough opponent on the road since Saturday. The Preds are well-rested having been off since Friday and frankly need this more in the Western Conference playoff chase. This is a big price and I might play it with something TBA off-site (will wait on some injuries/goaltending choices to decide which), but I have a hard time seeing Nashville lose by more than a goal at home, where it has won six of seven. The Predators have won nine of their last 10 games vs. the Wild. Norris Trophy candidate Roman Josi has a whopping eight points in the two wins this season for Nashville. We are going to have to get used to expensive +1.5 pucklines for the playoffs. |
04-05-22 | Maple Leafs v. Panthers -159 | 6-7 | Win | 100 | 7 h 33 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units I faded the Leafs in Tampa on Monday night unfortunately, and Toronto was incredibly impressive in a 6-2 victory behind an Auston Matthews hat trick. If the Leafs can pull off the Tampa/Sunrise double in a back-to-back, well kudos because it's incredibly rare for any team to complete the Florida Sweep at all -- much less in 24 hours. Plus, it's rookie Eric Kallgren in net tonight for Toronto, and he has allowed at least three goals in four straight outings. I usually go Under 7 goals, which is the total here, but I simply can't do it this time. I won't be going Over, though, either. |
04-05-22 | Hurricanes v. Sabres +1.5 | 2-4 | Win | 100 | 7 h 31 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units If the books are going to keep giving us great Sabres puckline prices (-122 here), I'm going to continue cashing. While I didn't play them Sunday vs. Florida in a two-goal loss, Buffalo had at least one point in the eight previous games, and all we need is a point to guarantee a puckline victory. At home this season, Buffalo is a stellar 22-14 ATS. Carolina is slightly under .500 ATS on the road. |
04-04-22 | Bruins v. Blue Jackets +1.5 | 3-2 | Win | 100 | 7 h 34 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Solid price at -122 on the puckline for Columbus, which is four games over .500 at home but has lost six in a row overall (thus the good price). The SportsLine Projection Model has the Jackets winning outright. Not sure I agree with that. The Bruins might take this one for granted as they beat visiting Columbus 5-2 on Saturday and play again Tuesday. Top Columbus defenseman Zach Werenski (42 points) will return from injury tonight and that's big. Coach Brad Larsen is back from COVID protocols apparently. It's Linus Ullmark in net for Boston and he's a bit of a step down from Jeremy Swayman. |
04-02-22 | Wild +1.5 v. Hurricanes | 3-1 | Win | 100 | 8 h 57 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Carolina is excellent, but we are getting a decent day-before price on the Wild puckline (-160 as of now that probably only goes up), and Minnesota is quite good itself. Jesperi Kotkaniemi (26 points) remains out for the Canes. Should be Marc-Andre Fleury in net for Minnesota, and he has been energized by the trade from Chicago, going 2-0 with only three goals allowed in a Wild uniform. |
04-02-22 | Maple Leafs v. Flyers +1.5 | 6-3 | Loss | -102 | 8 h 51 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Going to jump this one early as we get the Flyers at -110 on the puckline. The Leafs are of course the much better team but also starting Jack Campbell in net -- he has been out since March 8 due to injury and had been horrible in five straight outings before being shut down. A couple of other regulars are out injured. The Flyers have lost three straight but those were all away. Their past two home games: Upsets of the Islanders and Predators. Philly can at worst stay within a goal Saturday. |
04-02-22 | Penguins v. Avalanche OVER 6 | 2-3 | Loss | -125 | 4 h 51 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Consider that the Over is 4-1 in Penguins last 5 overall and 4-1-2 in Penguins last 7 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game. While the Over is 6-1-1 in Avalanche last 8 vs. Eastern Conference, 9-2 in Avalanche last 11 vs. Metropolitan, and 7-3 in Avalanche last 10 Saturday games. In addition the Over is 3-1-1 in the last 5 meetings. |
04-02-22 | Panthers v. Devils OVER 7 | 7-6 | Win | 100 | 1 h 14 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Consider that the Over is 23-6-2 in Panthers last 31 vs. Eastern Conference, 21-6-2 in Panthers last 29 games playing on 1 days rest, 20-6-2 in Panthers last 28 vs. Metropolitan, and 15-5-1 in Panthers last 21 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game. While the Over is 18-7-3 in Devils last 28 after allowing 5 goals or more in their previous game, 25-10-2 in Devils last 37 games as an underdog, and 15-7-1 in Devils last 23 vs. a team with a winning % above .600. |
04-01-22 | Blues v. Oilers -140 | 5-6 | Win | 100 | 11 h 13 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Great matchup and the Blues are certainly capable of winning but Edmonton is feeling it at home on an eight-game winning streak. The franchise record is nine. Connor McDavid has scored in back-to-back games and has eight goals in his last 11 games as part of an 11-game point streak (8G, 13A). The Oilers (4.70) and Blues (3.90) are averaging the first and third-most goals per game since March 10. Jordan Kryou (62 points) is iffy for St. Louis. |
04-01-22 | Senators v. Red Wings -115 | 5-2 | Loss | -115 | 4 h 49 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units I really had no interest in this game between bad teams but will roll with the Wings at home because Ottawa is giving Mads Sogaard his first-ever NHL start in net. The 6-foot-7 Sogaard was 16-13-1, with a 2.87 goals against average and .906 save percentage with Belleville of the American Hockey League this year. His NHL experience amounts to one exhibition period in September. I'm always going to fade a rookie netminder in his first start on the road. |
